A term applied to a variety of minerals which occur as loose mixtures of clay, calcium carbonate, and carbon based materials in various stages of decomposition. It is frequently found in a hydrous state in subterraneous deposits. It is used for fertilizer and also in the beauty industry for its exfoliative properties
