ROCKY POND Gold Prospect Northeastern Newfoundland, Canada Approx 864 acres, the Rocky Pond Property consists of 14 claims each 500m x 500m on the west side of Gander River, northeastern Newfoundland NTS 2E/2. The property lies within the Dunnage Tectonostratigraphic Zone and is underlain by the Ordovician Davidsville Group. The property accessed via the Clarke's Head forestry access road originating in the community of Gander Bay. The Davidsville Group forms the basal sedimentary division in the eastern part of the Dunnage Zone. To the east of the property, the basal part of the Davidsville Group is structurally imbricated with the Gander River Complex. Exploration in the general and surrounding area by Noranda in the early 80's to early 90's brought about the conclusion that the entire region was highly anomalous in gold. Roland Quinlan staked the property and performed prospecting and rock sampling in the area in 1998. At the Rocky Pond gold showing, the mineralization occurs in veins, where gold is confined to massive pods of sulphides that occur locally along the contact of the vein and the wallrock. Although hidden by overburden, three veins appear sporadically along strike to the west. It appears that the same type of mineralization continues for at least 100 m and beyond. The vein systems are structurally controlled and accompanied by no or minimal wallrock alteration. Sulphide mineralogy includes stibnite, pyrite and arsenopyrite. Assay results from the 1998 sampling program by R. Quinlan include: Sample # Au ppb As ppm GB-CH-3 8868 > 2200 RKP-98-01 51825 > 2200 >440 ppm Sb BP-98-02 2168 > 2200 TC-GF-02 330 > 2200 Along strike to the SW, Paragon Minerals are actively exploring a major mineralized system, the JBP Linear, which has been traced over 15 km with surface samples up to 25.68 oz/t gold. A major prospect within the belt is the H-Pond Zone, defined over 700 m strike length and 250 m depth and open in all directions. Here, significant drill intercepts have been defined up to 11.70 g/t gold over 3.40 meters (HP-04-03).The belt shows strong similarities to the Bendigo-Ballarat Gold District in Australia, an area with over 22 million ounces of past gold production (from Paragon Minerals website).
