AT 1900 R.P.M; 550 THE BUCKET VIZOR HAS HAD THE LIP RIPPED OUT AND IS NO LONGER SERVICABLE. THERE IS A SPARE VIZOR AVAILABLE, BUT THIS HAS ALSO BEEN DAMAGED. HAVING THE RIGHT-HAND BOSS FOR THE CLAM CYLINDER SNAPPED OFF. THIS IS REPAIRABLE. THE BUCKET BACKWALL IS IN A SERVICABLE CONDITION. IT HAS IN THE PAST BEEN WELDED AROUND THE PIVOT BOSSES, BUCKET TO THE STICK. ALL THE GREASING FOR THE BUCKET, CROWD AND CLAM CYLINDERS IS CARRIED OUT MANUALLY!!!!!!! UNDERCARRIAGE; PIN CENTRES; 355MM FOR BOTH SIDES. RAIL HEIGHT; RIGHT-HAND 215MM. LEFT-HAND 220MM. TRACK PAD WIDTH 800MM. TRACK PADS ARE WORNDOWN TO THE BOLT HEADS, WITH SOME BEING LOOSE AND SOME BOLTS MISSING. THERE ARE SOME TRACK PINS WELDED IN AND ALSO SOME LOOSE PINS. BOTH TRACK CHAINS CONTAIN 45 LINKS. LEFT-HAND IDLER IS WORN, BUT SERVICABLE. RIGHT-HAND ILDER IS WORN, WITH CRACKING AROUND THE PATHS, BUT AGAIN SERVICABLE. SPROCKETS; THE LEFT-HAND SPROCKET IS BADLY WORN. RIGHT-HAND SPROCKET IS 75% GOOD APPROX. THE OUTER DUO CONE SEAL IS LEAKING ON THE LEFT-HAND SPROCKET. TO CARRY OUT THIS REPAIR THE TRACK CHAIN MUST BE REMOVED ALONG WITH THE TRAVEL MOTOR, TRAVEL GEARBOX, TRAVEL SHAFT, BEARINGS, BEAMS AND SPROCKET. BOTTOM ROLLERS; SOME OF THE ROLLERS ARE COLLAPSED AND SOME ARE LEAKING. POSITION NO7 BOTTOM ROLLER ON THE RIGHT-HAND SIDE IS MISSING. TOP ROLLERS; BOTH FRONT TOP ROLLERS HAVE BEEN MODIFIED TO CATERPILLAR D11 TYPE. THE RIGHT-HAND REAR TOP ROLLER HAS BEEN WELDED IN POSITION. THE CARBODY HAS ONE MINOR CRACK ON THE RIGHT-HAND FRONT. THE MOUNTINGS, CARBODY TO TRACK FRAMES HAVE MINOR CRACKING. BOTH TRAVEL BRAKES ARE DISCONNECTED!!!!!! THE BOOM IS OF THE EARLIER TYPE, HAVING A THINER TOP RAIL. BOOM IS CRACKED BEHIND THE LEFT-HAND TRI-POWER. TO CARRY OUT THIS REPAIR THE CYLINDERS AND TRI-POWER ROD HAVE TO BE DISCONNECTED AS TO BE ABLE TO ROTATE THE TRI-POWER TO ACCESS THE CRACKED AREA. THERE IS A SMALL CRACK ON THE BOOM BELOW THE RIGHT-HAND MAIN VALVE BLOCK. IN THE PAST THE BOOM HAS HAD A CRACK IN THE TOP RAIL AND DOWN THE RIGHT-HAND SIDE. THIS HAS BEEN WELDED AND THE IS AFFECTIVE. THE PIN AND BUSHES THAT CONNECT THE BOOM TO THE STICK ARE BADLY WORN. ALSO THE RIGHT-HAND RETAINING COVER FOR THIS PIN IS WELDED IN PLACE. MANY RETAINERS FOR THE CYLINDER MOUNTING PINS ARE WELDED IN PLACE. THESE NEED TO BE REMOVED AND REPLACE WITH THE CORRECT BOLTS AND WASHERS. ON TESTING THE HYDRAULICS I FOUND ALL CYLINDERS WITH NO BY-PASS. THE CAB WAS TIDY, ALTHOUGH THE RIGHT-HAND SIDE WINDOW, ALSO WITH THE LEFT-HAND FRONT WINDOW WERE PERSPEX, AND NOT GLASS. THE RIGHT-HAND PUMPDRIVE GEARBOX HAS OIL TRANSFER FROM EITHER THE SERVO OR SWING PUMP. THESE PUMPS HAVE TO BE REMOVED AND INSPECTED FOR WEAR TO THE SHAFT AND OR SEAL. LEFT-HAND PUMPDRIVE GEARBOX WAS FOUND TO BE IN GOOD ORDER. ONE OR TWO MINOR LEAKS DETECTED FROM THE HYDRAULIC PUMPS. LEFT-HAND ENGINE; THIS UNIT HAS MANY OIL LEAKS. THESE LEAKS HAVE TO BE RECIFIED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, BECAUSE OIL IS BLOWING INTO THE COOLING RADIATOR. RIGHT-HAND ENGINE; THIS UNIT ALSO HAS FAR TOO MANY OIL LEAKS, AND ONCE AGAIN THESE LEAKS MUST BE STOPPED. BOTH THE ENGINE COOLANT RADIATORS ARE OF THE SMALL TUBE TYPE. BOTH ARE SERVICABLE, BUT THE LEFT-HAND IS BLOCKED WITH OIL FROM THE ENGINE OIL LEAKS. THIS UNIT MUST BE STEAM CLEANED. CONCLUSION; ONCE AGAIN, THE UNDERCARRIAGE IS IN VERY POOR CONDITION. ALTHOUGH IN THE SHORT TERM THIS IS SERVICABLE, BUT MUST BE REPLACED SOONER RATHER THAN LATER. ALL OTHER FAULTS ARE REPAIRABLE. THE MACHINE HAS BEEN CLEANED, BUT BOTH ENGINE BAYS ARE FILTHY AND MUST BE STEAM CLEANED. THE SERIAL NUMBER PLATE IS MISSING. AT 1900 R.P.M 600 RIGHT-HAND ENGINE SERIAL NO; 31134643 CPL 447 LOW IDLE; 850 R.P.M. HIGH IDLE; 2100 R.P.M. RATED H.P. AT 1900 R.P.M. 575 THE BUCKET VIZOR IS WORN, BUT REPAIRABLE. THE VIZOR IS FITTED WITH 6 TEETH. THE 2 OUTER BEING OF THE O&K TYPE, WHILE THE INNER 4 TEETH ARE CATERPILLAR 994 TYPE TEETH. THE BUCKET BACKWALL IS WORN, BUT AGAIN REPAIRABLE. THE BUCKET BACKWALL WAS PREVIOUSLY CRACKED AROUND THE LEFT-HAND BOSS (BUCKET TO ARM) BUT THE REPAIR HAS BEEN AFFECTIVE. THE VIZOR PIVOT PINS AND BUSHES ARE BADLY WORN. THE PIN AND BUSHES, BUCKET TO STICK ARE WORN. THE STICK WAS PREVIOUSLY CRACKED AND WELDED ON THE LEFT-HAND SIDE. THE REPAIR IS AFFECTIVE. THE STICK HAS A SMALL CRACK ON THE RIGHT-HAND SIDE BY THE BUCKET STOP. THE UNDERCARRIAGE IS IN A VERY POOR CONDITION. BOTH TRACK CHAINS HAVE HAD ONE LINK REMOVED. TRACK PIN CENTRES MEASURED, LEFT-HAND, 360MM. RIGHT-HAND, 395MM. MANY OF THE TRACK PINS ARE VERY BADLY WORN. THE RAIL HEIGHT MEASURED, 230MM, FOR BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT-HAND SIDES. THE TRACK PADS ARE 800MM WIDE, BADLY WORN DOWN TO THE BOLT HEADS. THERE ARE MANY LOOSE AND BROKEN TRACK PADS. MANY LOOSE TRACK PINS. THE LEFT-HAND IDLER THE RIMS ARE WORN AND CRACKED. ALSO I SUSPECT THE BUSH AND PIN ARE WORN. THE RIGHT-HAND IDLER THE GUIDES ARE CRACKED. BOTH SPROCKETS ARE WORN, THE RIGHT-HAND BEING VERY WORN. I OBSERVED NO LEAKAGE FROM BOTH SPROCKET DUO CONE SEALS. THE BOTTOM ROLLERS. SOME ARE LEAKING, BUT ARE SERVICABLE FOR A SHORT TIME. ALL TOP ROLLERS ARE SERVICABLE. THESE ROLLERS HAVE BEEN MODIFIED TO CATERPILLAR D11 TYPE. THE CARBODY HAS 3 MINOR CRACKS, 2 PLACES ON THE LEFT-HAND SIDE, AND ONE ON THE RIGHT-HAND SIDE (REPAIRABLE). THE MOUNTINGS FOR THE CARBODY TO THE TRACK FRAMES ARE IN GOOD CONDITION, ONLY BEING CRACKED ON THE RIGHT-HAND FRONT CORNER. THE SWIVEL CONNCTION IS ORIGINAL. BEAR IN MIND THE TOTAL HOURS THIS COMPONENT HAS WORKED. THE BOOM IS THE LATER TYPE HAVING A THICKER TOP RAIL. THE BOOM HAS HAD A MAJOR REPAIR WHERE THE LEFT-HAND STICK CYLINDER IS MOUNTED. THE REPAIR BEING AFFECTIVE. THE REAR BUSH FOR THE LEFT-HAND STICK CYLINDER IS MOVING OUT. I DID NOT OBSERVE ANY OTHER CRACKS ON THE BOOM. THERE IS A VERY BAD CRACK ON THE LEFT-HAND SIDE OF THE “A” FRAME. TO CARRY OUT THIS REPAIR ALL THE SERVO HOSES MUST BE REMOVED. ON TESTING THE HYDRAULIC CYLINDERS I OBSERVED THE FOLLOWING. HOIST CYLINDERS; NO BY-PASS. STICK CYLINDERS; NO BY-PASS. CROWD CYLINDERS; ON BY-PASS (POSSIBLE SECONDARY VALVES) CLAM CYLINDERS; ON BY-PASS (AGAIN POSSIBLE SECONDARY VALVES). THE PINS AND BUSHES FOR THE CLAM CYLINDERS ARE VERY BADLY WORN. THE LEFT-HAND HYDRAULIC COOLING FAN WAS NOT WORKING, THIS IS SUSPECT. I OBSERVED TRACES OF OIL IN THE CORE FOR THE LEFT-HAND HYDRAULIC COOLER, AGAIN SUSPECT. ON THE RIGHT-HAND TRI-POWER ROD THE LOWER PIN AND BUSH ARE MOVING OUT. ALSO THE ROD EYE HAS BEEN WELDED BACK ON. THE LOWER PIN AND BUSH ARE SUSPECT ON THE RIGHT-HAND HOIST CYLINDER. THE RETAINER FOR THE LEFT-HAND TRI-POWER HAS 2 BROKEN BOLTS. MANY RETAINERS FOR CYLINDER PINS ARE WELDED IN PLACE. ALL THE WELDED PLATES NEED TO BE REMOVED AND REPLACED WITH THE CORRECT RETAINING BOLT AND WASHER. THE CAB IS NOT VERY TIDY, HAVING ALL THE ROOF LINING OUT, ALTHOUGH THE LINING IS LYING IN THE CAB. BOTH THE PUMDRIVE GEARBOXES ARE DRY. ALTHOUGH THE DIPSTICK IS MISSING FROM THE LEFT-HAND GEARBOX. ALL HYDRAULIC PUMPS APPEAR TO HAVE NO LEAKS LEFT-HAND ENGINE; ONE OF THE AIR INDUCTION HOSES HAS BEEN TAPED UP (HOLED, POSSIBLE DUST INGRESS). THE CROSSOVER TUBE FROM TURBO TO THE AFTERCOOLER HAS A BLOWN GASKET. OIL LEAKAGE FROM THE REAR HOUSING AND A CAM BOX. THE UPPER MOUNTINGS FOR THE LEFT-HAND RADIATOR ARE BROKEN. THE CAP FOR THE LEFT-HAND WATER HEADER TANK IS MISSING. RIGHT-HAND ENGINE; THERE IS EXCESSIVE SMOKE FROM THIS ENGINE. I SUSPECT AN INJECTOR NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, AS THERE WAS NO MISFIRE OR NOISE FROM THE ENGINE. THE AIR INDUCTION HOSE HAS BEEN TAPED UP (HOLED, AGAIN POSSIBLE DUST INGRESS). OIL IS LEAKING FROM THE TURBO DRAIN HOSE. OIL IS LEAKING FROM THE FRONT OF THE ENGINE. SUSPECT FRONT SEAL. THE OIL FILTER HEAD IS LEAKING OIL. THE AIR COMPRESSOR AIR DELIVERY HOSE IS MISSING. BOTH THE RADIATORS ARE OF THE MASABI TYPE, AND BOTH ARE IN GOOD ORDER. BOTH THE UPPER GUARDS FOR THE RADIATORS ARE MISSING. CONCLUSION; THE MAIN FAULT WITH THIS MACHINE IS THE VERY POOR CONDITION OF THE UNDERCARRIAGE. ALL OTHER FAULTS ARE REPAIRABLE, AT A COST. THE MACHINE HAS BEEN CLEANED, BUT BOTH ENGINE COMPARTMENTS NEED TO BE CLEANED, AS THEY ARE VERY DIRTY. JOHN GIDDENS. 23/3/2007 |
